It is Monday morning. It is the first day of school. Peter and Amy are in the classroom. They are students. Mr. Parker is their teacher. The door opens. A boy walks in. "Good morning," says Mr. Parker. "Class, we have a new student today." The boy smiles. "Hello! I am Alejandro. I am from Argentina." "Welcome, Alejandro!" says Mr. Parker. "Please, sit here." Peter looks at Alejandro. "Hi! I am Peter. I am from Canada." "Nice to meet you, Peter," says Alejandro. Amy waves. "Hi, Alejandro! I am Amy. Peter and I are classmates." "You are very friendly," says Alejandro. He sits down. The door opens again. A girl walks in slowly. She looks nervous. "Good morning," says Mr. Parker. "You are Mishiko, right?" The girl nods. "Yes. I am Mishiko. I am from Japan." "Welcome to our class, Mishiko!" says Mr. Parker. "This is Peter, Amy, and Alejandro. They are your classmates now." Mishiko smiles a little. "Hello," she says quietly. "We are happy you are here," says Amy. Mr. Parker looks at the class. "Today is a special day. We have two new students. Alejandro is from Argentina, and Mishiko is from Japan. They are part of our class now. Let's make them feel welcome!" Peter, Amy, and the other students clap their hands. "Thank you," says Alejandro. Mishiko smiles. She is still nervous, but she is happy.
